A Strand SMG that banks "blight" as you hold the trigger and pays it back as homing Blighted Seekers every reload — then the catalyst staples Threadling generation onto precision and rapid kills. Run it on a Hunter whose whole kit makes Threadlings and Tangles, slap on Swarmers so every Threadling unravels what it touches, and you fire one gun that spits two independent self-guiding swarms into a shared debuff field. The weapon does the clearing; you exist to keep reloading and dropping Tangles.
The weapon
Panic Response (intrinsic): "This weapon generates blight as it deals damage. While not firing, blight depletes, and the magazine is gradually refilled. Reload the weapon to convert stored blight into Blighted Seekers."
Selectable trait (one of three, all verbatim):
Taken Resolution — "Hitting three different targets generates a large amount of blight. Blighted Seekers bore through targets." (add-clear pick — piercing, chaining Seekers.) Taken Ambition — "Blight generated increases the longer this weapon remains on a target. Blighted Seekers burrow into targets and explode." (single-target / miniboss pick — burrow-detonate.) Taken Divergence — "This weapon resonates with your choices." (adaptive; flexes blight-gen toward whichever of the above you've been favouring.)
Catalyst — Hatchling Refit:"Precision final blows or rapidly defeating targets with this weapon spawns a Threadling at the target's location." (The catalyst socket also offers Target Lock Refit, One for All Refit, and High-Impact Reserves Refit for raw ramp damage — but Hatchling is what makes this a two-swarm build.)
What it does in practice: hold the trigger to bank blight — but don't hose a wall, because blight depletes the moment you stop, so fire committed bursts into live targets. Reload to cash that blight into Blighted Seekers, homing projectiles that either pierce and chain (Resolution) or burrow and explode (Ambition). With Hatchling, precision and rapid kills also drop a Threadling at the corpse. So a single trigger-pull → reload cycle launches two separate swarms that chase targets with zero further input from you. Marksman's Dodge grants an on-demand full reload, which turns the Seeker launch from a wait into a button you press whenever you want the payload out.

Why
Subclass
Threadrunner (Strand Hunter)
Every verb the gun touches — Threadlings, Tangles, Unravel — is native, so Surge mods and fragments all line up on one element.
Super
Silkstrike (Threaded Spike)
Roaming whip for a panic clear; or bank it and lean on the Tangle/Threadling economy, treating Super as an oh-no button.
Class ability
Marksman's Dodge
Instantly reloads all weapons on dodge — an on-demand blight→Seeker conversion, and the reload is the weapon's payload trigger.
Movement
Triple Jump
Air control to land Ensnaring Slam dives and reposition between committed bursts.
Melee
Threaded Spike
Bouncing Tangle-maker; melee kills feed the Strand loop and hand you more Tangles to destroy.
Grenade
Threadling Grenade
Throws a fistful of Threadlings directly — a second Threadling source stacked on top of Hatchling.
Aspect 1
Widow's Silk
"You have an additional grenade charge." — double Threadling Grenade, and its grapple lands a Tangle for Swarmers / Whirling Maelstrom fuel.
Aspect 2
Whirling Maelstrom
"Destroying a Tangle will weave a violent, writhing mass of Strand fibers. The Strand mass seeks out and damages targets, emitting Unraveling projectiles when it defeats them." — turns your Tangle flood into a third autonomous swarm.
Fragments
Rebirth · Continuity · Generation · Evolution
Third Threadling source, longer Unravel, refunded grenade energy, and stronger Threadlings (see line below).
Exotic armour
Swarmers (Leg)
"Destroying a Tangle spawns a Threadling. Your Threadlings unravel targets that they damage." — the keystone that turns every Threadling into an Unravel applicator (Why #1).
Weapons
Special GL / Strand Special + Strand Machine Gun (e.g. Commemoration, Service of Luzaku)
Special covers a champion gap and makes Tangles; a Strand Heavy is your surge-matched boss DPS and double-dips the kit's Strand mods.
Fragments
Thread of Rebirth"Strand weapon final blows have a chance to create a Threadling" — a Threadling off every Barrow-Dyad kill, not just precision/rapid ones) · Thread of Continuity ("Suspend, unravel, and sever effects… have increased duration" — Strand debuffs last ~50% longer, so Swarmers' Unravel runs ~7.5s instead of ~5s) · Thread of Generation ("Dealing damage generates grenade energy" — banking blight refunds the Threadling Grenade; the −10 Grenade cost is paid back by the fragment) · Thread of Evolution ("Threadlings travel farther and deal additional damage" — ~33% PvE damage on a swarm you make constantly
Why it works (the mechanics)
Swarmers is the keystone — it converts your Threadling flood into an Unravel sprinkler, and Unravel is a fireteam-wide damage debuff. The Hatchling catalyst, Threadling Grenade, Thread of Rebirth, and every destroyed Tangle (Swarmers' own clause) all make Threadlings, and Swarmers makes each one unravel what it damages. Unravelled targets take extra damage from everything — your own Seekers, your Heavy, and anyone else's guns. You're not buffing one weapon; you're painting a debuff field with autonomous drones.
The gun runs two swarms off a single trigger→reload loop. Blight banks while you hold fire and converts to Blighted Seekers on reload (Panic Response); precision and rapid kills drop Threadlings (Hatchling). Marksman's Dodge gives a free full reload on demand, so the Seeker launch is a keypress, not a cooldown. Hold trigger → kill → dodge-reload → Seekers and Threadlings both deploy and self-guide while you reposition.
Widow's Silk + Whirling Maelstrom turn your Tangle surplus into a third swarm. Widow's Silk's grapple-Tangle plus Threaded Spike keep Tangles constant; destroying one simultaneously spawns a Swarmers Threadling and weaves a Whirling Maelstrom Strand-mass that fires Unravelling projectiles. Three independent auto-targeting sources, all off add-clear you were doing anyway.
Threadrunner is the only subclass where all of this is free. The catalyst's Threadlings, the weapon's Strand element, Unravel, and Tangles are all native verbs, so Strand Surge, the Thread fragments, and Swarmers all key off one element. On any non-Strand subclass the catalyst's Threadlings are orphaned value; here they are the centre of the loop.
Thread of Generation closes the ability economy. Banking blight means holding the trigger, which means dealing damage, which refunds grenade energy → more Threadling Grenades → more Threadlings → more Unravel. The weapon's own firing habit feeds the abilities that feed the weapon.
Trait choice is your content dial.Taken Resolution (blight off 3 different targets; piercing, chaining Seekers) for dense add waves; Taken Ambition (blight ramps on a held target; burrow-explode Seekers) for minibosses where you park the beam. Swap at the gunsmith bench per activity — same build, different swarm shape.
Stats & mods
Weapons 200 → Health → Grenade. Weapons is the PvE-damage stat in 9.7.0 and this is a primary-weapon-centric build; Health next for survivability under the swarm; Grenade third because Threadling Grenade is a core swarm source (Thread of Generation tops it up anyway). Archetype lean: a Weapons-primary roll with a Health/Grenade secondary — a grenadier-skewed gunfighter, not a Super battery.
Mods:
Boots (Swarmers): Strand Weapon Surge ×2 (+17% Strand damage at x2 in PvE — straight onto Barrow-Dyad and the Strand Heavy) · Orbs of Restoration.
Surge: Strand Weapon Surge (element-matched to the gun and the Heavy).
Anti-Champion: none intrinsic to the SMG, and Tablet of Ruin carries no champion mods of its own — cover it via Suspend (Ensnaring Slam / Tangles stun Unstoppable) and carry a Special/Heavy weapon with the matching intrinsic stun (Barrier especially) for GM-tier.
Artifact — Tablet of Ruin
The Strand-native artifact: its Tangle / Sever / Unravel chain is this build's loop, so the artifact amplifies the swarm field rather than sitting beside it. The centrepiece SMG breaks no champion on its own (verify notes), and Tablet of Ruin's tier pools carry no champion mods either, so the picks lean into damage and Sever pressure while the champion answers come from Suspend and a Special/Heavy weapon's intrinsic stun.
Picks (2/3/2):
Tier 1: Unraveling Orbs · Hold the Line
Tier 2: Vile Weave · Horde Shuttle · Gold From Lead
Tier 3: To Shreds · Elemental Supercharger
Unraveling Orbs arms Barrow-Dyad with Unraveling Rounds off every Orb or Tangle you grab, stacking directly onto Swarmers' Unravel field.
Hold the Line hands the Strand Heavy reload, stability, and a heal when you're swarmed — survivability while the drones work.
Vile Weave makes your Tangle flood sever on contact and refunds Tangle cooldown, feeding both Sever and Whirling Maelstrom.
Horde Shuttle spawns severing Threadlings when you damage unravelled targets — a fourth autonomous swarm born off the debuff field you already lay.
Gold From Lead rolls Heavy ammo from Special pickups, keeping the Strand Heavy fed for boss rooms.
To Shreds makes severed targets unravel and drop a Strand hotspot, closing the Vile Weave → Sever → Unravel loop.
Elemental Supercharger refunds Super energy on severed kills, recharging Silkstrike from the sever pressure you generate.
Where it shines
Add-dense PvE — the home lane. Strikes, Vanguard Ops, non-GM Nightfalls, seasonal activities, Onslaught. Three self-guiding swarms plus a shared Unravel field clear trash while you babysit nothing.
Debuff-hungry fireteams. The Swarmers Unravel sprinkler is a team damage debuff — pair it with anyone's burst DPS and everyone hits harder into the field.
Soft spot — single-target boss DPS lives on your Heavy, not the SMG. The swarm output is add-clear and debuff, not a damage phase. Taken Ambition + a surge-matched Strand Heavy is the boss-room compromise.
Champion coverage: the SMG breaks no champion intrinsically, and Tablet of Ruin has no champion mods to lean on. Bring it via Suspend (Ensnaring Slam / Tangles stun Unstoppable) and carry a Special/Heavy weapon with the matching intrinsic stun (Barrier especially) for GM-tier.
