A Strand SMG that builds "blight" as you hold the trigger and pays it back as homing Blighted Seekers every reload — then the catalyst staples Threadling generation onto precision kills. Run it on a Hunter whose whole kit makes Threadlings and Tangles, slap on Swarmers so every Threadling unravels, and you fire one gun that spits two independent self-guiding swarms. The weapon does the clearing; you exist to keep reloading and dropping Tangles.
The weapon
Panic Response (intrinsic): "This weapon generates blight as it deals damage. While not firing, blight depletes, and the magazine is gradually refilled. Reload the weapon to convert stored blight into Blighted Seekers."
Selectable trait (one of three, all verbatim):
Taken Resolution — "Hitting three different targets generates a large amount of blight. Blighted Seekers bore through targets." (add-clear pick — pierce.)
Taken Ambition — "Blight generated increases the longer this weapon remains on a target. Blighted Seekers burrow into targets and explode." (single-target / miniboss pick — burrow-detonate.)
Taken Divergence — "This weapon resonates with your choices." (adaptive; it flexes blight-gen toward whichever of the above you've been favouring.)
Catalyst — Hatchling Refit:"Precision final blows or rapidly defeating targets with this weapon spawns a Threadling at the target's location." (The catalyst socket also offers Target Lock Refit, One for All Refit, and High-Impact Reserves Refit if you'd rather have raw ramp damage — but Hatchling is the build, see below.)
What it does in practice: hold the trigger to bank blight (don't dump the whole mag into a wall — blight depletes when you stop, so fire in committed bursts on targets). Reload to cash blight into Blighted Seekers — homing projectiles that either pierce (Resolution) or burrow + explode (Ambition). With Hatchling, precision/rapid kills also drop Threadlings. So a single trigger-pull → reload cycle launches two separate swarms that chase targets without your input.

Why
Subclass
Threadrunner (Strand Hunter)
Every verb the gun touches — Threadlings, Tangles, Unravel — is native here.
Super
Silkstrike (Threaded Spike)
Roaming whip; or hold it for the Tangle/Threadling economy and run Super as a panic button.
Class ability
Marksman's Dodge
Full reload on dodge = instant blight→Seeker conversion mid-fight. The reload is the weapon's payload button.
Movement
Triple Jump
Air control to land Ensnaring Slam dives and reposition between bursts.
Melee
Threaded Spike
Bouncing Tangle-maker; melee kills feed the Strand loop and Threaded Specter.
Grenade
Threadling Grenade
Throws 3+ Threadlings directly — stacks a second Threadling source on top of Hatchling.
Aspect 1
Widow's Silk
Extra grenade charge (double Threadling Grenade) and your grapple makes a Tangle on arrival → fuel for Swarmers/Whirling Maelstrom.
Aspect 2
Whirling Maelstrom
"Destroying a Tangle will weave a violent, writhing mass of Strand fibers… emitting Unraveling projectiles when it defeats them." Turns your Tangle flood into a third autonomous swarm.
Exotic armour
Swarmers (Leg)
"Destroying a Tangle spawns a Threadling. Your Threadlings unravel targets that they damage." — the keystone (see Why #1).
Weapon 2 (Special)
Slug/Wave-frame GL or a Strand Special
Champion coverage + a Tangle-maker; a Strand option keeps Unravel synergy.
Weapon 3 (Heavy)
Strand Machine Gun / LMG (e.g. Commemoration, or any Strand HMG)
Surge-matched boss DPS; Strand element so weapon mods/surges double-dip with the kit.
Fragments (4):
Thread of Rebirth — "Strand weapon final blows have a chance to create a Threadling." (Third Threadling source — every Barrow-Dyad kill, not just precision/rapid ones.)
Thread of Continuity — "Suspend, unravel, and sever effects… have increased duration." (Swarmers' Threadling-Unravel and Whirling Maelstrom's Unravel last longer — directly buffs the build's damage debuff.)
Thread of Generation — "Dealing damage generates grenade energy." (Holding the trigger to bank blight also refunds your Threadling Grenade. −10 Grenade stat cost is irrelevant; the fragment pays it back.)
Thread of Evolution — "Threadlings travel farther and deal additional damage." (Flat buff to every Threadling — and you make a flood of them.)
Why this works (the mechanics)
Swarmers is the keystone: it turns your Threadlings into an Unravel sprinkler, and Unravel is a damage debuff the whole fireteam shares. Barrow-Dyad's Hatchling catalyst, Threadling Grenade, Thread of Rebirth, and every Tangle you destroy (Swarmers' second clause) all make Threadlings — and Swarmers makes each one unravel what it touches. Unravelled targets take more damage from everything, including your own Seekers and Heavy. You're not buffing one gun; you're laying a debuff field with autonomous drones.
The gun runs two swarms off one trigger→reload loop. Blight banks while you fire, converts to Blighted Seekers on reload (Panic Response); precision/rapid kills drop Threadlings (Hatchling). Marksman's Dodge gives a free full reload on demand, so the Seeker-launch is a button, not a wait. Hold trigger → kill → dodge-reload → Seekers + Threadlings both deploy and self-guide.
Widow's Silk + Whirling Maelstrom convert your Tangle surplus into a third swarm. Widow's Silk's grapple-Tangle and Threaded Spike give you constant Tangles; destroying a Tangle simultaneously spawns a Swarmers Threadling and weaves a Whirling Maelstrom Strand-mass that fires Unravelling projectiles. Three independent auto-targeting damage sources, all from add-clear you're doing anyway.
Threadrunner is the only subclass where all of this is free. The catalyst's Strand Threadlings, the weapon's Strand element, Unravel, and Tangles are all native verbs — Surge mods, Thread fragments, and Swarmers all line up on one element. On any non-Strand subclass the catalyst's Threadlings are orphaned value; here they're the centre of the loop.
Trait choice is your content dial.Taken Resolution (piercing Seekers, blight off 3 different targets) for dense add waves; Taken Ambition (burrow-explode Seekers, blight ramps on a held target) for minibosses/Champions where you park the beam. Swap at the gunsmith bench per activity.
Thread of Generation closes the ability economy. Banking blight means holding the trigger, which means dealing damage, which refunds grenade energy → more Threadling Grenades → more Threadlings → more Unravel. The weapon's own firing habit feeds the abilities that feed the weapon.
Stats & mods
Weapons 200 → Health 100+ → Grenade. Weapons is the PvE-damage stat (9.7.0) and this is a primary-weapon-centric build; Grenade third because Threadling Grenade is a core swarm source (Thread of Generation tops it up anyway).
Helmet: Strand Siphon (Strand kills → Orbs) · Ashes to Assets (Super on grenade kills) · Dynamo (Super on dodge — Marksman's Dodge fires constantly).
Gauntlets: SMG Loader ×1 (faster reload = faster Seeker launch) · Grenade Font (→ Grenade stat) · Heavy Hand or Melee Font.
Chest: Resistance mods to taste (the build's DR is Woven Mail from Tangles, so flat resist fills gaps).
Boots (Swarmers):Strand Weapon Surge ×2 (≈+17% Strand damage — straight onto Barrow-Dyad and your Heavy) · Orbs of Restoration.
Stat tuning: +Weapons where available; dump into Health only after 100.
Anti-Champion 2.0: SMGs are Rapid-Fire / Lightweight frame territory → Overload stun is the archetype intrinsic Barrow-Dyad most plausibly carries (720 RPM rapid-fire). Confirm the exact frame in-game (see Verify notes) — and either way, Strand Suspend (Ensnaring Slam / Threaded Spike Tangles) and Unravel are your soft answer to Unstoppable/Barrier behaviour. Carry a Special weapon with a clean Barrier/Unstoppable intrinsic to cover the gap.
Where it shines
Add-dense PvE — the home lane. Strikes, Vanguard Ops, Nightfalls (non-GM), seasonal activities, Onslaught. Three self-guiding swarms + Unravel field clear trash while you babysit nothing.
Match-game / debuff-hungle fireteams: the Swarmers Unravel sprinkler is a team damage debuff; pair with anyone's burst DPS.
Champion coverage: Overload (likely archetype intrinsic — verify) handled by the gun; Suspend (Ensnaring Slam / Tangles) and Unravel duration (Continuity) pressure Unstoppable/Barrier behaviour. Bring a Special with the matching intrinsic stun for −30/−40 GM-tier where archetype stun alone isn't enough.
Soft spots: raw single-target boss DPS is your Heavy, not the SMG — the swarm output is add-clear and debuff, not a damage phase. Taken Ambition + Heavy surge is the boss-room compromise.
